Who can vote in a provincial election?
To vote in a provincial election, you must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years old on polling day
- an ordinary resident of the province the day before polling day
Do I have to register to vote?
Yes, you must be registered on the provincial Voters List to vote in a provincial election.
I will be 18 years old on election day. Can I vote earlier?
To vote, you must be a Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old on Election Day. If you are currently 17 years old, but will turn 18 by Election Day, you can vote using the early voting methods available.
Where do I register to vote?
You can register to vote using our Online Voter Registration Portal. You can also visit any Elections NL office to register, or you call us toll free at 1-877-709-7987 for more information.
You can also register in person on Advance Polling Day, or at your assigned poll on Polling Day.
I already registered to vote in Federal / Municipal elections, do I still need to register with Elections NL?
Yes, you should still verify that you are on the provincial Voter’s List. To check if you are registered, use the Online Voter Registration Portal, visit any Elections NL office or call us toll free at 1-877-709-7987.
Is there a deadline to be added to the voters list before an election?
Yes.
If I missed the deadline to be added to the Voters List can I still vote?
Yes. You can register at the Advance Poll, or at your assigned poll on Election day. You will be required to complete an oath (confirming you are who you say you are) and present identification that shows your name, current address and signature.
I am attending school away from my home. Can I still vote?
Yes, there are multiple voting options for students.

You can vote in-person at any Elections NL office by Special Ballot. There are over 70 offices located in the province, serving most communities where students attend the College of the North Atlantic (CNA) campuses, Grenfell College, and Memorial University. Campus Voting at Memorial University
For the upcoming election there will be Elections NL offices at the Memorial University St. John’s Campus for students to vote in-person by Special Ballot. Any student can vote at these on-campus locations. Click here for locations and hours of voting.
