Who can register and vote?
To register and vote in a provincial election, you must be:
- a Canadian citizen
- at least 18 years old on polling day
- an ordinary resident of the province the day before polling day (Tuesday, October 14)
Do I have to register to vote?
Yes, you must be registered on the provincial Voter’s List to vote in a provincial election or you will be required to complete an oath at the poll and will be added to the Voter’s List for the next provincial election event.
Am I registered to vote?
Many electors are already included in the provincial Voters List. If you have previously voted in a provincial election, you are on the Voters List. To check if you are registered, use the Online Voter Registration Portal, visit any Elections NL office or call us toll free at 1-877-709-7987.

What identification do I need to register to vote?
To register you must provide identification that confirms your name and current address. Click here to find a listing of acceptable identification.
If you are registering in person at an Elections NL office or at a polling station you must bring the ID that is in its original format. You can use a digital copy of your identification from a mobile device (such as a cell phone bill or a heat and light bill) These digital copies must be in the original format they were received (such as a bank statement from the app, or a PDF of a heat and light bill received via email).
A photograph of ID when registering in person cannot be used.
I already registered to vote in Federal / Municipal elections, do I still need to register with Elections NL?

Is there a deadline to be added to the Voters List before an election?
Yes.
If I missed the deadline to be added to the Voters List can I still vote?
Yes. You can register at the polls on Advance Voting Day, or at your assigned poll on Polling Day. You will be required to complete an oath (confirming you are who you say you are) and present identification that shows your name, current address and signature.
My name and/or address has changed since the last election. How will this affect me at the upcoming election?
