Changes to Special Ballot Voting
In 2017, amendments to the Elections Act, 1991 resulted in changes to how Special Ballot voting.
Changes affecting Special Ballot voting are as follows:
- While an elector can still apply for a Special Ballot voting kit up to four weeks before an election is called, a kit will only be issued after the close of Official Nominations (8 days after an election has been called).
- Special Ballot votes can only be cast after the close of Official Nominations.
- The minimum length of an election campaign has increased from 21 to 28 days.
- Candidate names and their affiliated party (if applicable) will be printed on your ballot and you may mark an 'X' next to your chosen candidate.
