The Elections Act, 1991 is the public statute applied to the delivery of elections, controverted elections and election financing.

In 2007, Bill 21 was passed by the House of Assembly introducing significant amendments to the Elections Act, 1991.

In 2004, through an amendment in the House of Assembly Act, the government of Newfoundland and Labrador enacted legislation to fix the date of General Elections in the province.
