Current List of Candidates
Candidates can officially be nominated beginning on September 17 (after the issue of the Writ) and before 2:00 pm. on Saturday, September 29, 2007.
A Candidate does not have to run in the electoral district where he/she resides
You should call the returning officer in the district where you are running as a candidate and arrange an appointment to be nominated. |

In order to be a candidate you must be: |
| • |
A Canadian Citizen |
| • |
18 years of Age on official Nomination Day |
| • |
Ordinarily resident in the Province the day before Nomination Day |
| • |
Not disqualified by the Elections Act or another Act for election to or sitting in the House of Assembly |

If you are not associated with or a member of a registered political party your political affiliation on the ballot paper will be “non affiliated” unless you file a document with the district returning officer at the time of nomination requesting that “non affiliated” be omitted from any election documents.
You must provide in your nomination papers the following:

| 1) |
the name of the electoral district where you are running; |
2) |
your name, ordinary residence and political affiliation (if any), and an affidavit in the prescribed form with: |

a)
|
the names and addresses of at least 10 electors qualified to vote in the same electoral district as you are running, who wish to nominate you; |
| |
b)
|
the consent of the candidate signed on the nomination paper in the presence of the person who witnessed the signature, or that the person named as the candidate was absent from the Province; |
3)
|
the person who signed the affidavit referred to in (2) above shall be the person who witnessed the signing by the candidate of the nomination paper, if the candidate was not absent from the Province. |

The following documents must accompany the Nomination Papers: |
| |
1)
|
the consent in writing of the person nominated in it except where that person is absent from the Province when the absence shall be stated in the nomination paper; |
2) |
an affidavit of the candidate as to his/her qualifications including party affiliation where the candidate is affiliated with a Party; |
3) |
a deposit of $200 in legal tender or certified cheque made payable to the Chief Electoral Officer to be held in trust; |
4) |
the name and address of the Chief Financial Officer appointed under Section 298; |
| 5) |
the full name and address of the candidate; |
6)
|
the address of the place where records of the candidate are maintained and of the place to which communications may be addressed; |
7) |
the names of all persons authorized by the candidate to accept contributions; |
8)
|
the name and address of every chartered bank, trust company or other financial institution that is lawfully entitled to accept deposits to be used by or on behalf of the candidate as the depositories for all contributions made to that candidate; and, |
| 9) |
the names of persons responsible for each depository. |

Before 2:00 pm. on Nomination Day, the leader of a registered political party is required to file with the Chief Electoral Officer a list containing the names of all candidates who are endorsed by the party.
Remember call the returning officer in the electoral district where you intend to be a candidate to arrange for your official nomination. |
